Our ancestors also had fun, and so should we... is a proverb which one can hear in Dubrovnik in February during the carnival, the time when everything is allowed, when people become someone else or show their true face... Experience the special atmosphere of the Dubrovnik carnival festivities characterized by jokes, laughter, merriment, joy, satire… feel the special spirit of the City at carnival time!

The Second Dubrovnik Carnival Festival
The Dubrovnik Carnival Festival - an international cultural and entertaining event featuring numerous carnival and music programmes - will take place for the second time under the patronage of the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board from 11 to 19 February 2012.

Four days of the Dubrovnik carnival - for Children and all Those Who Wish to Have a Great Time
The Four Dubrovnik Carnival Days will begin on Saturday, 18 February, at the Gospino Polje Ice Skating Rink, where the Masked Ice Teen Party will be organised, including dance music, face paint and masked animators.

Masquerades in Dubrovnik
Nothing could prevent people from organizing masquerades in the Old Dubrovnik. Hidden behind a mask in the joyful festive atmosphere, one could criticize and ridicule the authorities, the criticisms however, never being rude and insulting, but intelligent and subtle. During the carnival days, the gaudily dressed groups walked along the streets singing, rejoicing and dancing to the music. They teased the passers by, hugged and kissed them, commenting, often with sharp stings.

Taste Sporchi Macaroni!
Taste this Dubrovnik dish typical of winter and great festivities, which the Dubrovnik aristocrats prepared on St Blaise Day. The dish made of paste and meat sauce was called Sporchi Macaroni because of the way it used to be served. Namely, after the meat sauce had been eaten, the last guest were served only the paste with the remaining sauce with no meat – the „stained“, or „sporchi“ macaroni.
