The Good Food Festival Dubrovnik 2017 is about to begin

On Thursday, October 19th the fourth edition of the Good Food Festival Dubrovnik 2017, a manifestation that in previous years has won over both foreign and domestic visitors, will begin with an interesting and rich program. This already well-known festival is a blend of traditional and modern cuisine, and this year's program begins with the Deša Association's workshop on preparing the Ston Cake in the Lazaretto.

As in previous years, the Deša Humanitarian Association is organising a series of workshops on preparing traditional desserts. On the first day of this year's festival program, starting at 10 am in the Lazaretto, there will be a workshop on preparing the Ston Cake, one of the original, sweet renaissance dishes of this region. It is a cake in which one can recognize ingredients and flavours typical of the Mediterranean and of this region, while the cake is distinct because of the macaroni that is one of its main ingredients. This cake was a typical decoration of Christmas and Easter tables, and was made for other special occasions, as well. Such an occasion is the beginning of this year's Good Food Festival!

The first day of the program brings two more interesting workshops. ˝Pasta and Conversations about Food˝ is the name of Marina Žibert Ercegović’s workshop that will be held at 11 am at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at Pile. This workshop is intended for students of the Dubrovnik Tourism and Hospitality School, which educates the next generation of Dubrovnik tourism. Who better to transfer valuable knowledge than the excellent chef Marina Žibert Ercegović, who has been part of this festival since its very beginning. For the first time this year, the Good Food Festival will be attended by a certified vegan chef and healthy food expert Tereza Poljanić, who will hold a workshop on preparing vegetarian brunch or dinner called ˝Hello Tereza˝ beginning at 5 pm at the same location, TIC Pile. Tereza is currently living in Auckland, New Zealand and she is the author of the blog ˝Teresamisu˝, two cookbooks and a television show of the same name, ˝Hello, Teresa!˝, broadcast on the most popular TV station Pop TV. The young chef is a link between Croatia, Slovenia and New Zealand, and she is currently exploring Dalmatian and Dubrovnik cuisine.

The Story of Lekri, the only wine ˝produced in Dubrovnik˝, will make for a beautiful evening on the first day of the festival, starting at 6pm in the Škar Winery on the Lapad Coast. Accompanied by stories about Dubrovnik history and ship building, family tradition, local grape sorts and wine making, this is an opportunity to try Lekri white, rosé and red wines paired with prosciutto, cheese and olives, and then to enjoy selected liqueurs, candied almonds and dried figs.

The final event of the first day of the Good Food Festival is the gastronomic presentation of Vukovar-Srijem County, which will be held at 7:30 pm in the Mimoza Restaurant. With a musical performance by a tamburitza band, the evening will be dedicated to Slavonia and Srijem and their rich gastronomy. Slavonia is considered as a Croatian region that has good food, especially meat, while Slavonian hospitality and the welcoming one receives in this region are famous even afar.

The rich four-day program of the fourth edition of the Good Food Festival brings together a varied offer of delicious food and the best wines through a variety of events every day. Besides the gastronomic and oenologic character, as a treat for all lovers of good food the festival has an educational and humanitarian character as well. Famous names from the world of gastronomy and cooking, countless domestic and foreign visitors, 14 foreign journalists who will follow the program – they will all contribute to the excellent reputation of this festival, which has become a favourite among Dubrovnik locals and their guests as well.
