Stone Heads at Pile Gate

Before setting your foot on the wooden draw-bridge connecting Pile...

- the western entrance - with the Old City, you should look up. Under a large statue of St Blaise, the stone reveals a story or legend of the three heads, three sculptures, a bearded man and two women.

Their quite intriguing story is alleged to be a reminder of forbidden loves between the Poor Clares and the Franciscans.

Perhaps, if we could somehow go back into the past, these three stone heads could tell quite a different story revealing not death and love, unfathomable secrets and hidden intentions, but rather some pragmatic circumstances. Although silent and motionless in the stone, the heads continue to tell the stories to which everyone adds his own dimension.
