ADVENT IN THE CITY 19 November 2016 – 8 January 2017
ADVENT IN THE CITY 19 November 2016 – 8 January 2017

The unique heritage sites and venues, such as Peskarija, Stradun, Pile and Lazareti will come alive in a new way, decorated in holiday lights. Bring your children to the skating rink or to the Christmas Fairy Tale show, warm yourselves with mulled wine and enjoy Croatian style prikle doughnuts, or dance in the tent by Orlando’s Column. Have fun at the theatre, visit galleries and museums, and learn how to make Dubrovnik’s traditional sweet delicacies. Enjoy yourselves in the Old City with free bus lines from the Libertas public city bus transportation company.

The uniqueness of Dubrovnik is also visible during the month of giving. This year’s Christmas Market is set up on the most beautiful street in Dubrovnik – Stradun – where traditional craftsmen will present their handicrafts, Christmas decorations, and traditional Christmas cakes and sweets will be offered as well.

Try to sing the traditional holiday songs, the Dubrovnik kolenda (carols) that have been sung on Christmas Eve and on New Year’s Eve since olden times, offering congratulations and wishing everyone a joyful holiday!

From the beginning of the festival until Christmas, performances by Gustafi, Tomislav Bralić and klapa Intrade, Prljavo kazalište, Jinx, Neno Belan and Fiumens, and Natali Dizdar will be held on Stradun. Apart from the big concerts held on Fridays, there will be live music by the holiday cottages beginning on December 1st on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while for the duration of Advent in Dubrovnik, every Sunday the klapa singing group Kaše will perform a program of traditional Dubrovnik carols and songs.

Numerous cultural programs will also be organised. Of particular note is the exhibition of Francis Bacon, one of the most important painters of the 20th century, which will be held at the Dubrovnik Museum of Modern Art, as well as numerous performances in the theatre, concerts of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra with guest soloists, and interesting seasonal workshops that institutions and organizations have prepared for all ages.

From the opening of the festival on 19 November 2016 to 8 January 2017 the public city bus transportation company Libertas will offer transport free of charge on all bus lines in the direction of the historic city centre. Libertas buses will be free every day in the aforementioned period from 5 pm until the last night-time departure on all city lines that run to and from the historic centre of the city, as well as the bus lines from Slano and Cavtat. A special Libertas ˝Advent line˝ will shuttle passengers for free every day from the central bus station in Gruž to Pile.
