Autumn Music Variety
Autumn Music Variety is a musical event which takes time at the beginning of autumn in the organisation of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. The program of this manifestation is characterized by diversity. This year, it runs from 29 September to 13 October and includes seven concerts.
The manifestation starts on the 29 September with a gypsy jazz concert by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and Gypsy jazz band Gadjo Manouche. It is a band that performs mostly works of legendary Django Reindhart, the founder of Gypsy jazz style and Stephan Grapelli music as well. Arrangements of the pieces such as "I can not give you anything but love", "Blue drag", "Sweet Georgia Brown", "La Foule", "The Continental", "Vendredi 13" for the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra was prepared  by Damir Butigan. Concert will be conducted by Maestro Krešimir Batinić.
On 2 October, the concert will be held in cooperation with the Japanese Embassy in Croatia. It will be a combination of modern and traditional music on the unique instrument that we don't have an opportunity to hear so often. It is a traditional Japanese flute made of bamboo - shakuhachi, and the concert will be performed by Yosuke Irie. The entrance to this concert is free.
On Tuesday, October 3, the orchestra will be conducted by Tomislav Fačini, and Swiss pianist Beatrice Berrut performs as a soloist. The program includes C. Saint-Saëns Danse Macabre, op. 40 and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92, and the audience will have a chance to hear in Listz's Piano concerto No 1 in E flat Major, S.124
An Armenian pianist living and working in Dubrovnik, Naira Asatrian, will have a humanitarian recital on Thursday, 5 October, and the income from the concert is intended for the Intensive Care Unit of the Dubrovnik General Hospital. Pieces from L. van Beethoven and W.A. Mozart are on the program of this concert.
Pianists Ivana Jelača and Stefani Grbić and trumpetist Ivan Medi will perform with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Tomislav Fačini,on Friday, October 6th. Program consists of: W.A. Mozart: Serenade for winds, W.A. Mozart: Piano concerto No. 24 in C minor, HW 491, D. Shostakovich: Concert for piano, trumpet and strings in C Minor, Op. 35.
One concert will be dedicated to the themes of famous films, TV series and evergreens. Some of them are The Godfather, Titanic, James Bond, The Scent of aWomen, the popular TV series The Game Thrones, interesting compositions dedicated to Beatles' music and music of Carlos Santana, Libertango by Astor Piazzolla. Trumpetist Džemal Cakić will perform as a soloist in the famous compositions of Sway, Volare and New York, New York. This concert will be held on October 10th.
The last concert of the Autumn Music Variety is on the 13th of October when the String Chamber Ensemble of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra performs under the guidance of the concertmaster Đana Kahriman. They will perform Symphony no. 3 in D major of Dubrovnik's composer Luka Sorkocevic, Mozart's Divertimento in D major and Britten's Simple Symphony, op. 4th
All concerts will take place in the Atrium of the Rector's Palace starting at 9 pm.
The event is sponsored by the City of Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik Tourist Board and Grand Hotel Park.
