While summer is reserved for the Dubrovnik Festival performances in the open air, in winter art moves to a small theatre named after the greatest Dubrovnik playwright Marin Držić.
From 10 July to 25 August, Dubrovnik becomes a meeting place of the best Croatian actors who perform in the finest national and international plays. The programmes of this prestigious Festival take place in numerous attractive open air venues in the City or in its close proximity.
Being an ambience festival, where art and environment amalgamate in an amazing way, is what makes the Dubrovnik Summer Festival different from other European festivals of the kind. Dormant in summer, the Dubrovnik Temple of Thalia, the Marin Držić Theatre, becomes alive again in winter, with a repertoire including both contemporary and classical Dubrovnik literary heritage masterpieces.
